The Illinois AFL-CIO today announced its endorsement of Maria Peterson for Illinois State Representative. In the endorsement, the AFL-CIO noted the lack of support for labor shown by the incumbent 52nd Illinois House District Representative Martin McLaughlin (R) who has a mere 27% labor voting record.
“I am thrilled to have the endorsement of the Illinois AFL-CIO. As a former attorney with the U.S. Department of Labor, I understand the need to fight for the rights of working men and women,” said Peterson. “I fought for working families for years as a labor lawyer, I will continue that fight for the rights of Union members in Springfield.”
“The Illinois AFL-CIO represents nearly 900,000 workers around the state and we need Maria Peterson’s voice in Springfield safeguarding our rights in the legislature the way she did as a labor lawyer. We need someone in the 52 District that labor and working families can count on, said Tim Drea, Illinois AFL-CIO President.
“While the incumbent State Rep. boasts a mere 27% labor voting record, we are certain that we can do better for the hard-working people of the 52nd District. We look forward to assisting in Maria’s election effort next year and getting her down to Springfield because we know that, once there, she will be a tireless advocate for our Labor brothers and sisters.”
