Maria Peterson Supports our Military on Memorial Day and Every Day
As we head into Memorial Day, Maria Peterson, Democratic candidate for State Representative in District 52, remembers our fallen soldiers and reiterated her support for today’s soldiers and veterans.
“We all owe such a debt of gratitude to the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. On Memorial Day, I will be thinking about them and their families. In Springfield, I will work for them everyday,” said Peterson.
Peterson said, “It is not enough that we remember the service members who have given their lives, we also need to safeguard the quality of life for our veterans, servicemembers, and their families. My opponent’s Republican colleagues in Washington are trying to hurt veterans, even today. We need to protect our veterans at the federal and state level. In Springfield, I will work to make certain that we keep our promises to those who serve, said Peterson.
“I am running for office to protect reproductive health, the environment, and gun safety. The Republican agenda does the opposite from top to bottom, in Washington, D.C. and in Springfield. My Republican opponent and his team are backing legislation which would hurt military families and all of us at every turn.”
According to the Democratic Appropriations Committee, the Republican-backed 2025 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies funding bill:
- Worsens the quality of life for servicemembers and their families and hurts military readiness by cutting military construction $718 million below last year.
- Further limits women’s access to abortion, harming women veterans’ health.
- Leaves military installations, servicemembers, and their families vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and worsening natural disasters by failing to include dedicated Climate Change and Resilience funding and walking back on investments in Natural Disaster Recovery construction.
- Undermines the ability to keep guns out of the hands of those prohibited under Federal law from purchasing or possessing firearms.
Peterson concluded, “I will put service before politics in Springfield. I will support our military and their families, as well as veterans. I will use my voice to make certain that Democrats at every level stand up to the Republican assault on our military and veterans rights.”
Maria Peterson is running for a seat in the Illinois House because she believes in putting “Service Before Politics.”
Maria Peterson is a dedicated advocate and community leader. As an elected official Maria Peterson will make it her priority to represent everyone in the district because the people here deserve someone who truly represents them and whose voice is not just another echo of Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis and their politics of hate, fear, and exclusion.
The people in this diverse district — that stretches all the way from Libertyville, Mundelein, Wauconda, Lakemoor, Volo, Hoffman Estates, the Barrington area, and Algonquin — are eager for better representation.
