Barrington, IL – Maria Peterson, Democratic candidate for the Illinois House of Representatives in the 52nd District, received the endorsement of five members of Congress today: Mike Quigley (5th Congressional District); Sean Casten (6th Congressional District); Jan Schakowsky (9th Congressional District); Brad Schneider (10th Congressional District); and Bill Foster (11th Congressional District).
“Maria is one of the highest caliber candidates for the state legislature I have met,” said Foster. “The Chicago suburbs need her voice, and I look forward to finding new ways to create partnerships between the federal government and the State to benefit the district.”
“Protecting our environment is a priority for me, and Maria will be a great partner in Springfield to fight against climate change, protect our air and water from pollutants, and decrease our reliance on fossil fuels,” said Casten.
“Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe, the role of state legislators to protect women’s health and reproductive rights is essential. Maria’s strong belief in the right to choose makes her an easy choice for the district,” said Quigley.
“The fight against extreme, right-wing policies is being fought both in Washington and in Springfield. Whether it’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, or even something as mundane as getting a bridge repaired, we need a state representative who truly cares about the 52nd District and its people. Maria is someone who can work with us to benefit the people of the district,” said Schakowsky.
Congressman Brad Schneider has also endorsed Maria.
The 52nd District is unique in the Chicago metropolitan area because it covers five different congressional districts and spans over four counties.
“One of my biggest goals is to build strong relationships with the members of Congress who represent this district so that we can partner with the federal government to deliver infrastructure and services to the district,” said Peterson. “We need a state representative who can work with Congress to serve the people.”
Maria Peterson is running for a seat in the Illinois House because she believes in putting “Service Before Politics.”
Maria Peterson is a dedicated advocate and community leader. As an elected official, Maria Peterson will make it her priority to represent everyone in the district because the people here deserve someone who truly represents them, who looks more like them, and whose voice is not just another echo of Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis and their politics of hate, fear, and exclusion.
The people in this diverse district — that stretches all the way from Libertyville, Mundelein, Wauconda, Lakemoor, Volo, Hoffman Estates, the Barrington area, and Algonquin — are eager for better representation.
